Ok, I wrote this on Valentine's Day because my crush gave me chocolates and I was giddy little girl.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A young girl sat on a bench in a park. Her brown hair moved slightly with the wind while her blue/grey eyes read the words of the book in front of her.
She flipped the last page over and sighed, closing the book. She looked around at all the people walking, talking or running, laughing. A soft smile spread on her face.
"Arionna!" cried a voice. The girl looked behind her to see her best friend running towards her. She giggled as he tripped on a tree root and tumbled to the ground. He groaned and walked closer.
"Ow. That hurt." The boy said, rubbing his neck, his black hair messy. Arionna continued giggling and looked up at the boy. "Oh Mike. You have such balance troubles." she said.
Mike sighed and sat next to his friend. "Tell me about it. I tripped over a piece of paper once. Paper!" he cried, his brown eyes big. Arionna just laughed. She looked at the sky and sighed.
"It's gonna rain soon." she pointed out. Mike looked up and blinked. "Aw man. I wanted to go to the beach." he complained. Arionna rolled her eyes and stood up. "Come on. You can come over. Mom's making a cake for Dad. It's his birthday." she said.
"Really? I didn't know your dad's birthday was the day before Valentines Day." Mick commented as he got up and followed Arionna.
The two friends walked side by side, looking out at the beach. They lived in Washington, where instead of sand, the beaches were covered in big rocks that kids loved to climb on.
Mike smiled as he thought of when he was younger and him and Arionna would climb on the rocks all the time. He looked to his friend as she dazed off, probably thinking about the book she just finished.
A crack of lighting followed by the bellow of thunder was heard and Arionna grabbed Mike's arm. A blush swept onto his face. He chuckled at his friend's expression.
"You got to get over your fear of thunder." Mike told her. Arionna stuck her tongue out at Mike but continued to hold his arm, tightening her grip with every sound of thunder.
Mike rolled his eyes and stopped. Arionna looked puzzeled for a few seconds before Mike bent his knees and motioned her to get on his back.
"Come on. Get on. I can run faster to your house." he said. Arionna walked closer and latched herself to her friends back, wrapping her arms around his neck.
Arionna didn't see the smile on Mike's face nor did he see her smile and blush. He stood straight up and began running. A few drops of rain splashed down to Earth, a few hitting Arionna as she buried her face into Mike's back.
Mike turned a corner and smirked when he saw Arionna's house. He raced for the door and stopped under the porch. He knocked on the door and Arionna got off his back just as her mother opened the door.
"Oh! Mike. Arionna. Come in. Come in. It's raining." Arionna's mom said, pushing the kids inside. The smell of cookies and cake batter was everywhere.
Arionna put her book on the coffee table and looked around. "Where's dad?" she asked. "He's on his way here. Just got off of work. Go upstairs and get his present. Quick!" her mother said.
Arionna grabbed Mike's hand and dragged him upstairs. As they disappeared from sight, Arionna's mother smiled. "Such a wonderful pair those two." she said to herself.
Once in her room, Arionna let go of Mike's hand and went to her closet. Mike sat on her bed and watched her. "So what did you get your dad?" he asked.
Arionna emerged from her closet, holding a smallish gift with a blue bow and purple wrapping. "A book, a tie, and a new watch." she told him.
She put the present on her desk and sat down next to Mike. She sighed and lay back, her hands behind her head. "Tired?" he asked, a smirk on his face.
"Not really. Just excited about Dad's birthday and tomorrow." Arionna replied. Mike raised an eyebrow and lay next to her. "Why?" he asked.
"About what? Dad's birthday or Valentine's day?" she asked, looking at him. Mike looked away, a small blush working it's way up his face.
"Tomorrow." He answered. She blinked and looked up at the ceiling, her own blush appearing. "Well you know. I guess for the candy." she said sarcastically.
Mike laughed and sat up. He looked at Arionna. "So what are you doing tomorrow then?" She tilted her head to the side, thinking. "I don't know. Haven't planned anything." she said truthfully.
Mike smiled. "What to catch a movie? I heard a new just got in and it's really funny." he said. Arionna smiled back and nodded, as she sat up. "Sure! Sounds like fun."
The sound of a door closing made it way to the bedroom. Arionna's eyes lit up. "Daddy's home!" she cried as she jumped off the bed and raced out of the room.
Mike followed and watched as his friend ran to her dad and hugged him. "Happy Birthday Daddy!" she cried. Mike smiled. Arionna sometimes reminded him of his little sister.
Arionna's dad looked at his daughter and smiled. "Thanks princess." he said, calling her by her nickname. He ruffled her hair a little and caught sight of Mike.
"Hey Mike. Good to see you." Arionna's dad said. Mike waved and made his way down the stairs. "Hey Mr. Batres. Happy Birthday." he said.
"Thank you Mike." Mr. Batres responded. Mrs. Batres ran out of the kitchen and hugged her husband. "Happy Birthday darling!" she cried.
"Hello dear." he responded, giving his wife a quick kiss. Arionna stood by Mike and watched her parents for a minute. She turned to her friend. "Come on. Let's go in the kitchen. I want a cookie." she said, walking towards the kitchen.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Arionna woke up and looked around. She smiled to herself when she saw Mike sleeping on the futon by her bed. She got off the bed and knelt next to Mike's sleeping form.
Arionna almost giggled, remembering last night when Mike's balance problems caused him to trip with his plate of cake and land face first in it.
Mike must have heard her wake because his eyes fluttered open and blinked a few times when he saw Arionna's face a few inches from his.
Both friends jumped back with a yell and a blush. Mike started laughing at his friend's shocked expression. "What a morning wake up." he joked.
Arionna rolled her eyes. "Get up. Mom has pancakes, by now. And we don't want to be late for the movies now do we?" she asked, a playful smile on her face.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The light dimmed. Voices hushed. A single wall lit up. Arionna ate a piece of popcorn while Mike ate a handful. The movie started. She looked at him quickly then back to the screen. He did the same.
The looking continued till they caught each others eyes. Arionna looked away and saw a couple, lip locked a few rows below them. Mike looked to the side to see nothing but couples everywhere, not paying attention to the movie but to each other.
Arionna bit her lip and thought *Maybe I should tell him but...* *Would that ruin our friendship?* Mike questioned himself. The movie continued while Arionna and Mike debated with themselves.
*What if...* *she says no?* *Could we...* *still be friends?* Arionna and Mike thought. She dared look at him to catch him looking at her. She turned her eyes to the movie.
She yawned, still tired from the long night she and Mike had of playing board games and things. She closed her eyes slowly. She didn't want to go to sleep but her body said otherwise.
Mike's eyes widen when Arionna's head rested on his shoulder. He looked at his sleeping friend. A smile spread to his face, and he rested his head on hers.
Arionna blinked her eyes opened when the lights came on. Her head shoot up, causing Mike's head to as well. He blinked a few times and was surprised to find that he fell asleep.
Arionna and Mike looked at each other and got up. "Sorry I fell asleep." she said quietly. "No problem. I did too." he said, smirking. They left the theater together.
The two passed some stores that were decorated with tons of pink and red hearts, some of the employees in pink and red themselves.
Arionna and Mike walked to the park and sat on the bench from yesterday. Usually talk would ensue but only silence echoed around them.
Arionna thought about when they were younger and she told him all about her crushes. She smirked, thinking of the way she used to do it.
"He has dark hair.'' she said suddenly. Mike's eyes widen as he looked at her. He knew what she was doing and felt his heart leap. He smirked. "She has dark hair."
Arionna looked at Mike. So he was doing the same thing huh? Revealing who he liked. She gulped and continued. "He has dark eyes." He smiled. "She has light eyes."
"He's around 5'7"."
"She's 5'4"."
"He's nice and funny."
"She's sweet and likes to read."
"He's 15."
"She's 14 and a half."
They both stopped. Arionna thought about her height and her age. Her heart beat faster when he said read. She always had a book with her.
Mike remembered when Arionna measured his height and his birthday past about two weeks ago. He thought of every time he made her laugh.
"His name begins with a M.''
"Her name begins with an A."
Again they stopped. Slowly they looked at each other. Arionna wore a large blush and Mike had half a smile and blush.
"It's you." they both said at the same time. Both blinked and blushed even more. Arionna's eyes widen while Mike's smile grew. Suddenly he hugged her.
She was shocked at first but slowly hugged him back. "I've been waiting to tell you that for a long time." he said softly in her ear. She smiled. "Really? I've been waiting since Kindergarten." she responded.
Mike pulled away and stared at her. She stared back. Blue/grey eyes against brown. And he slowly moved closer. She gulped and followed until their lips met.
Ok well. Don't know if it was very good but it was my first try at a one shot. Hope you liked it. <]
